Cinnamon Buns - Step aside buns of steel

Updated: Dec 4, 2023

It's the 4th of July weekend, one would envision blue skies and sunshine. We woke up to rain, rain and more rain. I needed to feel that quintessential celebratory mood, and what better way then to make cinnamon buns with ooey gooey-ness that is guaranteed sunshine in your tummy?

Now, if you are like me and wondered why buns and not rolls? Thank you Google, the key differentiating factor between the 2 is that the former has the inclusion of nuts.

I like all nuts and I cannot lie,

All you other foodies can't deny,

When a bun walks in with nuts stuffed in... BUT, I digress with my version of Sir Mix-a-Lot...

The decision was made that cinnamon buns were the way to go, BUT did i want to do it from scratch? Not really. In a moment of weakness, I had bought the Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls for a rainy day. And oh my, look at that, it WAS a rainy day. It was simply time to amp up the buns game and put MY twist on it. Nothing major, decided to soak the rolls in heavy whipping cream (as seen in one of those viral videos) and make an additional topping with melted butter, brown sugar with a mixture of pecans and walnuts. I incorporated the cream cheese frosting that I had made for my red velvet cake with the icing that came pre-packaged. A sprinkling of the end product with more walnuts was the grand finale.

For those of you who are going, Holy Batman Calories, my response is... Bite me. If you're going to indulge, you do it properly. No skim milk, sugar substitute, vegan butter business. Count the memories, not the calories. And my core memory for this endeavor was David literally inhaling the 1st bun and announcing "I don't want lunch, give me another bun".
